  • Northfield F5S.

Northfield's F5S has been getting a fantastic reception stateside and with very good reason.

They are bluegrass monsters with a strong and powerful chop and much, much more, strong well defined bass notes, rich and complex mids and clear trebles. The balance and projection is remarkable as is the depth of tone. Great for the aforementioned bluegrass and almost any other style.

  • Capek A4 basic octave mandolin with Fishman pickup USED. £1595.

Rosta is the man for getting great bass from a mandolin and that's what you want from an octave mandolin. This beauty in spruce and flamed maple with a twenty two and three quarters inch scale length has a very strong but controlled bass with fantastic warm and vibrant mids and clear ringing trebles. Many octave mandolins suffer from muddiness, not this one, the balance and projection is amazing and it plays like a dream and sounds fantastic acoustic and plugged in. With case.

  • Weber Yellowstone A4: Mandola A style, oval hole, honey/tortoise.

Dola heaven! This beauty growls and purrs along with the best of the subterranean mandolas with fantastic deep and warm tone. I have never understood how a good mandola can sound like this, giving the impression of an instrument much deeper than it actually is and a lot more than a fifth below the mandolin. Fantastic for melody, rhythm and adding a new voice to the mix solo or in a group, its also low enough to sing with.

Its in the beautiful honey and tortoise finish with a hand graduated and tuned Adirondack/red solid spruce top, flamed maple back and sides, ebony veneered tapered A headstock, tortoiseshell/ivoroid bound with black/ivoroid side accent lines, MOP "The Weber" Script and MOP white and gold flower pot inlay, tortoise bound soundhole, tortoise bound ebony radiussed fingerboard  with a 17 inch scale and a 1 1/4 inch nut width, MOP buds fret markers, dual action/adjustable bridge, tortoise bound body with black/ivoroid side accent lines, cast Weber nickel tailpiece, nickel Grover tuners, traditional Brekke bridge and deluxe hardshell case.

  • TAMCO deal of the year.

    Osthoff OM cedar/ziricote USED. £1995.

I got to thinking a while ago that I didn't have many cedar topped guitars in stock. Then I remembered that my favourite ever cedar topped guitar was paired with ziricote, so I ordered this beauty from John.

The sound has the typical warmth and immediacy of cedar with very full notes and beautiful richness and depth. It also has great balance and even tone across the range. Another incredible guitar from John.

  • Campanella Due Used.

I am not expecting my fist mandolin from Joe until September 2017 so having this preview is fantastic.

I now know why Joe has gained such an incredible reputation, the Due model is his signature mandolin. It has remarkable presence and depth of tone with a richness that is quite stunning. This is a fantastic all-rounder with plenty of volume and a great chop for bluegrass players and great warmth and resonance for other styles.

With Waverly tuners, James tailpiece and Calton case. The new price will be over £7500.
