Q: I am a newcomer to mandolins, is there anything I should know about mandolin set-up.

A: We often get calls from customers who have just received their first mandolin who are surprised by some of its features. Your mandolin should;

  • Have a slightly curved neck.
  • Have higher action (height of strings above the frets) at the G (bass) side.
  • Have the bridge set at a slight angle.
  • There may be some marking around the base of the bridge, with changes in temperature and humidity the correct bridge position changes slightly.
  • More details on the above points (and much more) can be found at frets.com

  • Please phone if you have any more questions.
