Working from a small workshop with six experienced luthiers Dana builds some of the finest acoustic guitars around today. No production lines here, these are hand made instruments with Dana's input and finishing in each one, I can never reach him by 'phone because he's always in the (work)shop.

All woods are hand selected by Dana and tops tap tuned, watching these guys at work is a sight to behold. Hand made instruments from master craftsmen at the price of many a famous name factory made instrument, come and see (and hear) the difference. Bourgeois JOM sitka/mahogany~This JOM is a special, commissioned by the Acoustic Music Co to get a Bourgeois at around two grand. It’s the same body as the JOMC with a 15 1/2" lower bout and no cutaway, in sitka/mahogany instead of sitka/rosewood, with tortoise binding. It has a bit more bass and resonance than the OM, its beautifully balanced and warm with good separation and great projection, a fantastic all-rounder.~This JOM is a special, created by the Acoutic Music Co to get some great hand hand made guitars under two grand. Dana Bourgeois Jumbo Cutaway~A gorgeous small jumbo (sixteen inch lower bout) with cutaway from Dana in rosewood and redwood (reclaimed, there is no redwood felling now) with the super-smooth Gotoh 510 tuners. Dana says: "In designing the DBJC, I wanted to develop a big guitar with a powerful, yet balanced voice for a serious fingerstyle player with a light to medium touch. I started with a large top, having a round, mechanically efficient lower bout capable of generating power and volume. Balance is difficult to achieve in large guitars, but absolutely critical to fingerstyle players. To address this issue, the DBJC employs medium-depth sides, several subtle bracing modifications, and an approach to voicing that differs from our other models. The redwood top provides a quick attack, ringing highs and long sustain; Indian rosewood is used on the back and sides for warmth and fullness of tone. I completed the package with fingerstyle-friendly string dimensions of a 1 3/4" nut and 2 5/16" bridge spacing." Bourgeois OMS std 12 fret rosewood/adirondack - SOLD~I've written about my love of twelve frets elsewhere and this surpasses all previous adulations. The 12 frets to the body allows the bridge to move closer to the centre of the lower bout, Dana has taken an OM body shape and elongated it slightly giving a very classic look with a beautiful slotted peghead and adirondack top on rosewood back and sides. The sound is superlative and the better it is the harder it is to describe, what really hit me on the first strum was the incredible balance, somehow each note is distinct but at the same time the sound is complete and all the notes are blended together. There is s great depth and warmth to the tone but with great separation and clarity. Bourgeois DS-260~Dana's DS-260, twelve frets to the body slope shouldered dreadnought has an adirondack spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides. The twelve fret design puts the sound hole closer to the waist of the guitar and the bridge farther down the lower bout. The bridge position gives a sweet and open quality to the sound, the ebony belly bridge drives the top from the widest point on the body. The neck is 1 3/4", it has an ebony fingerboard, squares and diamond inlay and side mounted Waverly tuners. It also features herringbone and ivoroid body binding and a matching herringbone backstrip and rosette. The bass has warmth and depth with a kind of velvety quality but its still clear and focused, no muddiness here, its the richest bass I have heard. The mid range is very vibrant with depth and complexity. The trebles sing with sweetness and clarity... Its just got to be heard, its very hard to describe a guitar this good without sounding over the top. Slope D Adirondack/Ziricote - SOLD~The back of this guitar is the most spectacular piece of wood I've ever seen, quite how the tree grows with the grain spilling out in shell shapes is a mystery to me, this one is unique, normally Ziricote grain is in horizontal bands. When I saw it at the workshop (see pic with Bourgeois description) I just had to have it in the shop, if its still here in a few months I'm going to keep it! The sunburst Adirondack spruce top looks great and re-creates that 'pre-war' sound. The tone is very similar to the Walnut slope D, perhaps a little sharper.~The back of this guitar is the most spectacular piece of wood I've ever seen, quite how the tree grows with the grain spilling out in shell shapes is a mystery to me, this one is unique, normally Ziricote grain is in horizontal bands. Bourgeois TAMCO custom DS-260 adirondack/AAA walnut~I liked Dana's DS-260 so much I ordered a TAMCO custom version in adirondack and AAA walnut, with curly maple bindings, pheasant wood three on a plate waverly tuners and an abalone rosette. With all my favourite aesthetic features its a true beauty. Ever since I started TAMCO walnut has been my favourite guitar wood so it does EVERYTHING I want a guitar to do. See the std DS-260 listing for a general description and technical details. It has all the depth and warmth of the rosewood DS but with more separation and clarity, a tad brighter and more complex in the mid ranges, very similar trebles.~I liked Dana's DS-260 so much I ordered a TAMCO custom version in adirondack and AAA walnut, with curly maple bindings, pheasant wood three on a plate waverly tuners and an abalone rosette.
