Phoenix Standard~The standard from Rolfe has a mere strap button to hang it over your shoulder but it makes up for the strap hanger complex with amazing responsiveness. As is the Phoenix trademark it seems to get to the note before you do. Not quite a light as the neoclassical but still lighter than most giving it its amazing resonance and projection. People often ask my about playability, I usually respond that it is different for different people, for me this is it, light and open. It has a very punchy sound with well defined bass, strong mids and very precise and clean trebles. I almost forgot to mention how great it looks, Rolfe told me this one has extra specialy flamey maple, the photo doesn't do it justice but take a look anyways. With hardshel case.~The standard from Rolfe has a mere strap button to hang it over your shoulder but it makes up for the strap hanger complex with amazing responsiveness. Phoenix Bluegrass~This is like the standard on steroids. Its pumped up for the bluegrass attack. The standard is warmer with more resonance, this amazing Bluegrass model is just that, ban*oes stand back, volume cut and projection are what it does... and does.. and does.... Rolfe specially tuned the top and tone bears so it would be that way and few know their craft better. Because Rolfe is such a nice fella he let us have this gorgeous bluegrass cannon with the bew-tiful quilted maple with no up-charge. It also has my favourite tailpiece, the James, a pearl nut, Elite tuners and a hardshel fibreglass case.~This is like the standard on steroids. Its pumped up for the bluegrass attack. Phoenix Europa II~One of only 12 of these amazing mandolins being made by Rolfe. The first Europa series was inspired when he came across a some English Sycamore, that first small run is sold out and now very collectable. Rolfe's Canadian wood supplier then imported some more Sycamore, it was already dried but Rolfe has carefully stored it for two more years. Black and gold Grover tuners and black hardware throughout, the internal blocks are willow, the fingerboard, headstock overlay, tailpiece overlay, and finger rest are ebony. The finish is premium waterborne varnish, harder and slicker than the usual varnish. The Europa II is built for Thomastik medium strings or other light strings. It features a side-port enabling the player to get a sound closer to that being heard by the audience. And what a sound! Like all Rolfe's Phoenixes it is very light and resonates to the slightest touch. The tone is incredibly rich; dark and complex bases, warm resonant mids and sweet, clear trebles.
