Rigel R200 Mandola~Simply the sweetest sounding mandola I have ever heard, I picked this one at the show in California. We did'nt realy need any more mandolas but it was so special that it had to come to TAMCO.~Simply the sweetest sounding mandola I have ever heard, I picked this one at the show in California. Rigel Jethro - USED~I played one of the first Rigel Jethros in a tasty blue in LA in early 2004. The sound has haunted me ever since, its taken until now for me to be able to afford to get one in. It was well worth the wait. Its Rigel's first model with binding but still made with solid carved rims. With its asymmetrical two point body in gorgeous dark cherry sunburst, block MoP fretboard inlays, gold fittings and a beautifully flamed maple back its stunning to look at. Now for the sound... if you thrash it with some chords the sound comes in big fat chunks, lots of volume and cut with rich, warm, dark and deep resonant bass tones. The mids are warm and complex, the trebles sweet and clear with great projection. With a lighter touch it responds like only a Rigel does, great balance and projection from the open G to the high D at the 22nd fret, with Pete Langdell’s fantastic pickup onboard there a few such versatile and playable mandolins around, bliss!!!
Its back, in the same condition, a year older, and Ł900 cheaper… grab it before I do..~I played one of the first Rigel Jethros in a tasty blue in LA in early 2004. Rigel G5 - SOLD~I was quite surprised (and a little sceptical) when I heard that Peter (Langdell, Rigel's master luthier) was making an F5. With his radical approach and revolutionary designs and ideas it seemed a strange choice, but then again mixing the best of old and new can produce impressive results. Having taken the plunge, on the basis that the proof of the pudding is in the hearing (?!), and ordered one I was rather nervous opening the box. I guess I should have trusted Peter, he has blazed the trail making fantastic mandolins so far, this is the next step. I am increasingly finding it hard to describe the sound of the great mandolins we are getting here at TAMCO, but this is my best shot. The tone is very rich and deep with very soft and subtle overtones when played with a light touch, with a little more enthusiasm it seems to sing with a harmonic chorus, and it barks like a deranged hound of the Baskervilles when driven; with an adirondack top a few months playing should produce even more amazing amd complex tones. Those having looked around this site will know of my preference for oval hole mandolins, every rule has an exception and this is it for me. It has the best of both, great bass and mid tones with outstanding sustain but with cut a plenty, if I could afford to take it home I would. Comes with Rigel's fantastic built in pickup.~I was quite surprised (and a little sceptical) when I heard that Peter (Langdell, Rigel's master luthier) was making an F5. Rigel R200 10 string mandola/mandolin - Sold~From Rigel's first batch of mandolas based on the renowned R100 I had this one customised to a 10 string mandola or short cittern. As a fan of five course instruments I've always wanted to combine a mandolin and mandola in this way. Tuned CGDAE with a 16" (mandola) scale length you get both instruments in one. This gives you the melody playing of a mandolin and a mandola but with an added fifth the chords are much fuller. It can even be used to to acompany solo singing. And its a Rigel, Peter Mix suggested a nice tobbaco sunburst but I thought as its a fairly radical instrument a radical coulr was called for so I chose a dark emerald green. I have to admit I had my doubts and nearly changed my mind but it looks phenomenenal. It sounds amazing to, great resonance sweat trebbles and rich bases. Comes with beautiful tweed hardshell case.~From Rigel's first batch of mandolas based on the renowned R100 I had this one customised to a 10 string mandola or short cittern.
