Guitar Page Header~Established in 1935, K. Yairi guitars have been made under the watchful eye of the son of the founder Kazuo Yairi for over 40 years. Around 30 people hand-make these amazing instruments in Kani, in the mountains of Honshu, Japan. The woods are hand-selected and air, not kiln, dried for 5-10 years, logs are cut in the on-site sawmill, all guitars have hand fitted dovetailed neck joints. Kazuo has a plaque in his workshop which reads: "There is no other way of surviving except through high quality".
The 73 year old master luthier took over the family business from his father in 1965 and has earned a reputation for making beautiful hand crafted acoustic guitars appreciated by world renowned artists such as: Paul McCartney, Ritchie Blackmore, Bob Weir & Jerry Garcia, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Carlos Santana, U2, Monte Montgomery & Ani Difranco. Yairi guitars are entirely handmade by skilled craftsman. Cases are not included, at these prices for a hand made guitar that's hardly surprising.~~~11202~11204~~

K. Yairi FY84SBE. OM electro/spruce/rosewood/sunburst - USED~Faithful orchestra style (OM) with 1 & 3/4" nut width and 25.5" scale. Solid Sitka spruce top with scalloped braces, rosewood back and sides, ebony fingerboard on mahogany neck (dovetail joint) finished in a gorgeous gloss sunburst. Abalone inlay around the soundhole, bound and bevelled fingerboard binding. Also equipped with the Bob Wier designed pick up system. A patented Yairi invention of the direct coupled bridge allows for increased rake angle over the saddle transmitting more energy to the soundboard. This makes for more volume, sustain and overtones. This design also eliminates problems like bridge pull or sink. Tone wise you get great balance, punchy projection and lots of headroom for those louder pieces. That bit of extra string tension on a smaller body is great for DADGAD and other open tunings as you still get a good snap on the bottom and clarity in the higher registers. Fans of the golden era Martin period may also like to know that the bridge plate (the internal reinforcement of the soundboard where the bridge sits) is made of Maple, as opposed to Spruce. The Martin historian Mike Longworth believed that the maple bridge plate was a more important tonal factor of the period than that of forward shifted scalloped bracing. K. Yairi RAG65G. Parlour spruce/mahagany~Parlour style OO (13” lower bout) with a 12 fret neck joint with 1 & 3/4" nut width & 24 & 3/8" scale length. Solid sitka spruce with tinted finish, mahogany back and sides, rosewood fingerboard on a mahogany neck with abalone rosette and vintage style through saddle. A slotted headstock is a clue to the guitar's roots, the gut strung small body guitars that were popular in the USA in the mid to late 19th century. People are coming back to the tonal characteristics that an OO style can offer (Ian Anderson is a devotee). Solid Sitka spruce top with rosewood back & sides, rosewood fingerboard on a mahogany neck (with dovetail joint). The FY20 has tortoise style binding and a vintage style through saddle, a slot headstock and the crucial 12th fret neck join. The guitar sounds great with a huge dynamic range from a small body. Sweet when picked yet doesn't suffer those honky, boxy mids when pushed hard.~Faithful New Yorker style with 1 & 3/4" nut width and 24 & 3/4" scale length, 14” lower bout.
