  • Collings Waterloo WL-K "Kel Kroydon".

Weighing in at under three pounds, the featherweight WL-K is an exciting new 12-fret addition to the Waterloo line built with maximum responsiveness in mind. Inspired by the elusive instruments manufactured under the sub-brand Kel Kroydon around 1930, which were touted at the time to offer the utmost in vibratory response and the finest tone available, the WL-K is delicately built using lightweight materials and supported by thinly carved braces. When paired with a minimal lacquer finish, the resulting tone is dry and transparent with just the right level of complexity in the overtones, capable of capturing the expressiveness of the player down to the finest nuance.

With a 24 7/8" scale length and moderately sized, oval shaped neck, the WL-K is a fingerstyle player's delight, but this is by no means the extent of the guitar’s versatility. Exceptional clarity and note separation make it well-suited to a variety of other playing styles and a logical choice for singer-songwriters and purveyors of traditional roots music. A carbon fiber T-bar running through the neck provides stability and efficient transfers of energy back into the body, producing a resonance you can feel.

All WL-K models feature carefully selected spruce tops and mahogany back and sides with a light shade top finish, vintage-style cutthrough saddle, and come sans-pickguard. The WL-K is also available with an optional hand-painted "Southwest" scene that pays homage to the American tradition of cowoby stencil guitars from the depression era. Due to this model's ultra-lightweight construction, we recommend a maximum string gauge of .011" to .052". Hardshell TKL case included.

All Waterloo models are handmade in Austin, Texas.

  • Collings OM1 walnut back and sides.

Another classic OM from Bill's team. Walnut has for a long time been one of my favourite back and side woods.

It is famed for deep and well defined lows, and strong mids, with rich even treble tones and lots of sustain. It has the depth of rosewood and the clarity of mahogany. A little brighter than mahogany, but not quite as bright as maple.

Customised for  TAMCO to my specifications, with incredible quilted maple back and sides, this is a very special mandola.

All the depth and warmth you would expect from a great mandola but with the legendary Collings definition and projection. Yes you can have it all, resonance and clarity in one package. Mandolas don't get any better than this.

  • Northfield Big Mon F5 Engelmann spruce top.

Big Mon with Engelmann Spruce top, violin varnish neck, engraved Bill James tailpiece. This one comes with the Airloom case at no extra charge - see photos - it would normally add £250.

I sold eight Big Mon's in 2016. I have only been allocated four for 2017.

The Northfield Big Mon has been creating quite a stir. It has a big fat tone with fantastic volume and projection. Created as the ideal bluegrass hoss (or cannon if you prefer) it has an amazing chop and great depth and richness of tone to take on pretty well any style, with great responsiveness from the lightest touch to the heaviest attack with a thick pick it is fantastic for all types of playing.

From the Northfield website. "Our "Big Mon" Mandolin is something we created in our shop. In an effort to try and create a little more mid range and bass response, with a nice airy sound, we developed this model to have a distinct voice. Here's what we did..

The "Big Mon" body style is just slightly different than the standard size. We've increased the width of the body, at its widest point, by 5mm. We've also adjusted the depth/width of the sides a little in a few places. Everything is in proportion to this change, so it results in a slightly larger body overall. It's not very noticeable unless you compare it directly to another standard size by lining them up back to back."

  • Weber Yellowstone A5: Mandola A style, f holes, honey/tortoise.

Dola heaven! This beauty growls and purrs along with the best of the subterranean mandolas with fantastic deep and warm tone. I have never understood how a good mandola can sound like this, giving the impression of an instrument much deeper than it actually is and a lot more than a fifth below the mandolin. Fantastic for melody, rhythm and adding a new voice to the mix solo or in a group, its also low enough to sing with.

Its in the beautiful honey and tortoise finish with a hand graduated and tuned Adirondack/red solid spruce top, flamed maple back and sides, ebony veneered tapered A headstock, tortoiseshell/ivoroid bound with black/ivoroid side accent lines, MOP "The Weber" Script and MOP white and gold flower pot inlay, tortoise bound soundhole, tortoise bound ebony radiussed fingerboard  with a 17 inch scale and a 1 1/4 inch nut width, MOP buds fret markers, dual action/adjustable bridge, tortoise bound body with black/ivoroid side accent lines, cast Weber nickel tailpiece, nickel Grover tuners, traditional Brekke bridge and deluxe hardshell case.
