Most of my used guitars come to me either in part exchange for new guitars or as commission (consignment) sales. As well as taking in guitars from the makers I represent and other individual workshops and individual makers I take guitars from the ‘famous names’. See my FAQ's for part exchange valuations.

I was so impressed with the 5-17 tenor from 1928 I had in a while ago (for a day before it sold) that I went for this beauty.

It weighs in at 1.05 kg! And has a very rich, full and lively tone to match. I regretted not taking the tenor home, I'm thinking about this one too.

With old (original?) and modern case.

Wonderful Martin 5-17T Tenor Guitar 1932. All original with banjo tuners and 'Earl Mead's Hawaiians' case.

It arrived with CGDA tuning (the same as a mandola) but to me it sounded much better with a new set of strings in GDAE (octave mandolin) tuning. It has a very loud and full tone with lots of warmth and depth.

A regular customer spotted Chris' work a while ago and I'm very glad he did. This is a beautiful guitar with with a very solid tone, solid seems a strange word to use but what I'm getting at is chords that sound completely even with no strange beats or wolf tones roaming around. Individual notes are strong, well defined and full, the overall tone is dark, rich and vibrant.

1904 Washburn parlour in excellent condition.

Adirondack/Brazilian rosewood, wooden coffin style case.

The depth and richness of tone of this little beauty is truly remarkable! Its a little clichéd to say how parlour guitars sound like bigger guitars but if you doubt it come and try this stunner. It has a quality of tone that only a hundred and ten years of Adirondack and Brazilian can produce.

The action is 4mm at the 12th fret on the bass side with nothing left on the saddle.

I have no expertise in this area but will do my best to answer any questions. As far as I can tell it is all original except for the bridge pins.

1995 Gibson J-35. Hand made by Gibson Master Luthier Ren Ferguson. It is faithful replica of the pre-war Gibson J-35. It features Honduran Mahogany Back and sides, Adirondack Spruce top, Ebony fingerboard and saddle, Waverly Tuners and Original Hard case. For most of it's 22 years it was kept unplayed in a case by a collector, so the condition is remarkable for it's age. It has had no repairs, it has no cracks and only a few weather checks (they are hard to see).

Fantastic rich and deep tone, kind of a dreadnought plus with all the power of a dread but with great clarity and projection, great for strumming flatpicking and fingerstyle.

Fantastic OO from Brent. The OO is my favourite guitar body size and this is a great example of why. The Adirondack and koa give it remarkable clarity and projection and the deep body add great depth and warmth. Strong, well defined bass notes, rich and full mids and clear and sparkling mids. Its also a joy to play.

Excellent condition slope D made in Dana's workshop in 2005.

Adirondack and rosewood make for a very powerful guitar with endless headroom, huge basses, awesome warm and full mids and bright and loud trebles. Anyone who know Vo Fletcher it's previous owner will know that this is the kind of guitar that Vo goes for. Built for performance and filling a venue with great definition and projection it also responds very well to a gentler approach.

Wow! Rich, full deep and warm with volume, definition and projection. I have never before heard such solid, clear and well defined trebles on a guitar of this size. If you are looking for a small guitar that does everything a bigger one will do look no further.

It takes a great teacher (Linda Manzer) and a great student to achieve this level of perfection.

In excellent condition, new price was £5995. There was a lot of excitement created about this beauty in a build thread on the AGF. It was well worth the wait. I love Tim's idea of including a bag of wood shavings and other bits and pieces.. see the photo.

It sounds tremendous, a big and warm sound but with great articulation and the clarity and definition of cocobolo. It responds to a nail-less finger as easily as a heavy pick. A fantastic fingerstyle guitar but capable of much more.

I am beginning to think that 12 frets to the body and a cutaway is in ideal combination, you get the sweetness of the more centred bridge and access all the way to the top fret. And if anyone knows how to do it its John Slobod (John is Circa Guitars).

This is a truly special guitar and shows what plain 'ol rosewood is capable of. With some very fine red spruce (Adirondack) on the top this guitar has the vintage tone John is famous for in bucket loads. Its deep and dark and powerful but also sweet and warm with a wonderful clarity and focus coming from the Adirondack, more headroom than you could ever wish for. It will respond willingly to a heavy pick or the lightest fingernail or fingertip. Magic.

1920 Gibson O Style Artist in amazing condition, all original including case (a bit tatty with the cloth covering removed). The Style O was made famous by Big Bill Broonzy.

I had been wanting to get my hands on one fo these for a very long time, and then I find two in a few months! It plays beautifully with a rich and full tone, more of a flat-top than archtop sound. All in perfect working order with good action and no buzzes or rattles.

Re-voiced by Ervin over the summer of 2015, a letter from Ervin explaining his thinking is included (see photo). This is effectively a new Somogyi that would cost over £30 000 to order now.

Its in excellent condition and has the classic Somogyi tone that Ervin is famous for. It is very rich and full, almost impossible to describe. I have used the expression before that Ervin's guitars sound like a choir of angels with a full orchestra. I still can't think of a better way to put it.

One of my favourite guitars ever, the owner traded it for another Matsuda due to his changed tone preferences. To order this now from Michi would take two years and cost over £15000.

Wow! This is the kind of innovation that is getting recognition. Michi is an inspiring luthier, if you think it looks good you should hear it. I often talk of how a great luthier can combine definition/clarity and complexity, this amazing guitar takes it to another level.

The base side of the fretboard has a 2 1/8” ; 2 fret extension, with built in spring loaded capo for the first fret. This gives endless opportunities for dropped tunings.

Very rare 1a 'butterfly' from Stephan Sobell. European spruce top, herringbone purfling and rosette, buffalo horn tuners, rosewood bindings. We have a copy of an email from Stephan from 2004 saying he remembers building it and that it first sold to a Scotsman in California. Some pick wear around the treble side rosette, shown, otherwise excellent condition. Incredible balance with amazing response and clarity but with great volume and projection, like no other we've heard. If I could write and describe sound like this. With immaculate Calton Case.
