Mandolin News.
I am very excited to have gotten my hands on one of the Weber Custom Elites. The talk on the web has been that this select few are up to the standards of Gilchrist, Nugget et al.. all I can add is that I have never heard finer. If its here that long (I doubt it) it will be interesting to compare it with the Heiden and Brentrup when they arrive around the end of the year.
Only two other mandolins in this time, a very loud and woody 11919 Gibson A2 and an excellent condition used Fylde Touchstone.
Rosta Capek has raised his prices for the first time since we have worked together (six years). As new stock replaces old prices will be going up ten to twenty percent.
Mark from Flinthills has just sent me some photos of work in progress. I am very impressed again, I am still enjoying my A4. I have worked with him on two models each - special and artist - for A4,A5,F4 and F5. One of each A4 and A5 and an F5 special are due at the end of October and into November.
The Ratliff that I was expecting to have arrived by now has been on the bus from Tennessee for a week. As I write nobody knows where it is. The American side say its not their problem because it was sent, the Brits say not our problem because we haven’t received it. I guess it must be somewhere???

As promised at the last update its bonanza time for new guitars. Ten new guitars from Brook, David Weber and Alister Atkin, three used form Brook, Bourgeois and Ovation.
If you’ve been contemplating a Brook we now have eight new in stock and one use, these are also the last at £1695, the next delivery will be £1775. So it’s a good time to visit, especially if you have a ways to come.
Alister Atkin’s reputation has been steadily growing over recent years. We are so impressed with the three new arrivals that we have ordered a Dreadnought and a J45. The build quality is immaculate and they all have a deep resonant tone more typical of American builders.
With the improving Canadian Dollar I keep expecting David Webbers guitars to go up but we now have six in stock at these amazing prices. We are very impressed with the three new ‘uns, the Parlour is a real sweetie, the roundbody is a very versatile guitar and the small Jumbo a powerhouse with more, come and try ‘em out!.
With all these guitars arriving we are desperately short of floor/wall and case storage space, so no reasonable offer refused on discontinued lines from Huss and Dalton and McCollum.
Unfortunately the Baraniks have been delayed again, now expected around the end of the month.
Happy pickin’
Trevor
