Mandolin News.
The Boviers are here! I’m impressed, a few years ago I really struggled to get mandolins in this price range that were a significant step up from the lower priced entry level instruments. Now with Eastman, Bovier and few Furch left there is plenty of choice. The Boviers are all I had hoped for going by their reputation, Jeff Cowherd has done a great job here. They have fantastic fit and finish and tone to match. I only have a few at the moment but more on the way, including an A5 model.
There is another of the amazing Givens in, and another F5 on its way. I know I rant a bit about great mandolins but these are truly special, one day prices will shoot up and I will regret not having hung on to them all but I’ve never been a believer in investing in mandolins (or much else, including my pension), these great mandos should be played. We also have back, from one of those strange fold who decide to concentrate on guitar, about the best looking (and great sounding) Lebeda we have had.

Only one newbie this time but what a newbie it is. Dana Bourgeois’ Advanced Slope D in Adirondack and Rosewood. If I was a guitar player… It’s the kind of guitar sound I go for, unbelievable bass, warm and deep but not dominant. All Dana’s Slope Ds are very versatile but to me this one is exceptional. In the coming weeks and months (all here by the end of July) we have a short scale and 12 fret slope D coming.
We have two Martins, a Taylor and a Goodall to add the ever growing used heard and another Taylor on its way.
Happy pickin’
Trevor
