Mandolin News.
Only two mandos in this time, both used. The lowest priced snakehead I’ve had, its got some very old cracks around the edge of the back but otherwise in great condition, its one of the best sounding I’ve had, unbelievable projection. One of the Old Wave/Bill Busman A4s from the first attempt at trying different back woods is back and as wonderful as when it left.
I’m getting excited again, this time its over the imminent (that’s if around the end of this year is imminent) arrival of Heiden mandolins. Michael is up there with the best, I’ve played a couple and never played any better. I was amazed and delighted when I called him on a hunch and he agreed to send three to TAMCO. He is keen to get some of his work over here and has agreed only to make these three for me, there probably won’t be any more, and I might keep one..
I forgot on the last news to mention that I have reluctantly put my Lebeda mandola up for sale. It’s the best mandola I’ve ever heard but something had to go, my collection is getting too large and I can’t afford it..
I got so excited about the Givens last time I made a mistake on the price, should have been £2995. I have it at home at the moment but for the same reason that the Lebeda mandola had to go its up for sale. If you are coming for a look/listen let me know. I will leave it in the shop when I go away.
There seems to have been a lot of interest in blonde mandolins recently so I’ve got Blonde Collings MT and Capek A4 basic coming, both due in 3-4 weeks. Due around the same time a custom Weber Gallatin, cedar/maple, gloss faded leather finish and lots of other upgrades. Also on its way another Gibson A3 whiteface, not in as good condition as the last one so it’ll be a bit less, don’t know how it sounds yet but I’ve loved all the whitefaces we’ve had so far. I also don’t know the price until I see what needs doing set-up/repair wise.

The review of Bourgeois standard OM and DB signature is out in Acoustic Magazine. The DB reviewed has sold but we have another due in a few weeks. The OM is still available. We’ve also got an advanced slope D due soon and Aloha and OM from James Goodall. We’ve got David Webber’s 000 back in stock and our first Webber dreadnought. Its up to his usual standards and amazing value. Talking of great value (as I always do) we have another Eastman jazzer, I’ve said it before and I’m going to say it again, these guitars are up to at least the standards of Jazz guitars we’ve had at two to three times the price in the past.
Three more used guitars in from Lakewood, Bourgeois and Brook, another Bourgeois custom JOMC in engleman and mahogany on its way and a Larrivee D-03 twelve string. Our stock of used guitars is even bigger than when I last proclaimed its vastness, range and wonderfulness….
Happy pickin’ Trevor
