We've had a few cylinderback mandolins before but this is the first maple back and the only one I've seen with original sunburst. Bluegrassers look the other way...
Scale length is 13 3/4". It has a patent date on the neck block Nov 4 1913. It has that typical wonderful mandola sounding solid bass, you can feel it rolling around that cylinder (I guess that's what it's there for!!!), rich mids and sweet trebles. In excellent condition with minor playing wear, no splits cracks or other issues. With cheap fibreboard case.

In great condition with a few barely visible surface marks and £500 less than a new one. This Lovely A4 from Bill is a classic oval hole mando, lots of depth, resonance and sweetness with clear trebles.

With original TKL case.

Wha d' y say about this! There are not many of these around, grab it while you can! It's in as new condition, it's loud and resophonicy!! It's a tough business describing sound (awwww poor me). I'm not even going to try with this one. With Rigel rectangular case.

Nineteen eighties A4 mandolin by Scotland's finest, Mike Vanden. With a tight, even grained spruce top and stunning birdseye maple back and sides in light cherry sunburst it's quite a beauty. It has a flat ebony fretboard with one and one eighths nut width and an ebony bridge. Deep, woody basses with warm and complex mids and bright, clear trebles. With hard case.

Fantastic and beautiful mandola by Jiri Lebeda from 2002. In excellent condition with gigbag. This was made for me by Jirri, I selected the stunning flamed maple when I visited him. It has an incredible deep and warm sound, even more so now than when it arrived!

It has a sixteen and a half inch scale length, flamed maple bindings, abalone soundhole rosette and headstock inlay, ebony fretboard and bridge and a solid/cast tailpiece.

Almost new Bitterroot F5 dola, the top has been re-finished by Graham due to a workshop accident while having a minor binding repair. See new for details.

Signed by Bob under the top, March 1985. In good condition with some dings on the top, 30mm nut width. Its very loud with great 'punch' and fantastic balance, separation and projection, deep bass, rich mids and very clear trebles. If you can't be heard playing this one it's your fault! With period F5 oblong, hard case and Fishman bridge pickup.

I can still remember when I first saw a photo of Pete's I-110. I thought it was darn ugly. By the end of the day I had gone back to the photos many times and completely changed my mind. When I got the opportunity to buy it I snapped it up but unfortunately it's the victim of my latest thinning of the herd.. just too many at home..

Believed to be one of only three made with this headstock design... I know I am going to regret this....

I had been aware of Al Beardsell's amazing guitars for a while when I read the feature on him in the Fretboard Journal. I took a look at his website and was amazed to find this remarkable mandolin for sale.

It is one of the most stunning mandolins I have ever seen. The sound has incredible clarity and finesse, power when called for and depth and subtlety when asked.

It is in excellent condition with some very small marks. No previous owner, it was used by Al as a demonstration of his work, and was on loan to Mike Marshall for a few months and shown at his symposium summer 2010.

A wonderful oval hole f style mandocello from Rosta. In spruce and flamed maple it has a 26" scale, 1 13/16" scale length, ebony bridge and saddle, abalone and MoP headstock inlay and logo, marquetry rosette, B band pickup and it comes in a gigbag.

Its deep and low, just how a fine mandocello should sound.

The most beautiful mandolin I've ever seen! But since I became a traitor to the oval hole sound and now mostly play f holed mandolins it's not getting much playing time and as I have too many at home it has to go. (I also have two other mandolins on order from Lawrence).

Lawrence designed it with Arthur Stern. When it became available a few years ago I snapped it up, I am going to miss it now!

I am reluctantly letting my Lawrence Smart 10 string go. Tuned CGDAE, if you have ever wanted a great mandolin and mandola in the same instrument they don't come any better than this.

The fan fret allows a longer scale for the mandola and shorter for the mandolin. This means the usual compromise of having either too short a scale for the mandola or too long for the mandolin in 14" - 16" scale instruments is overcome.

Hans is the master of old and new. My M21v is the ultimate in traditional design and old fashioned tastefulness. The recently sold Stealth and this Eclipse demonstrate his mastery of pushing the boundaries of design, some will love it some won't. Regular visitors to this site will know of my love of different designs so that puts me firmly in the former camp. The sound is Brentrup plus. I've had the privilege of playing some very fine mandolins over the last few years but few match a Brentrup. It has incredible power with a richness and depth of tone that is amazing. From the most delicate touch to the hardest chop it responds willingly, a truly amazing mandolin.

Sitka spruce top, gorgeous flamed/quilted one piece sugar maple back and sides, red maple neck all finished with a French polish topcoat on top of varnish applied by hand. Mother of pearl headstock inlay, ivoroid top and back binding, radiussed Ebony fretboard that is twenty nine millimetres wide at the bone nut with twenty one medium frets, James engraved tailpiece, nickel Elite tuners, Ebony finger rest/pick guard and an Ebony bridge. With Fishman dual source pickup and Calton case.

Lynn makes very few of his A-1 model to a basic spec, no variations. I originally bought it from Lynn, he told me that he enjoys making these once in a while because he doesn’t have to work to other people’s requirements. It still has the 'Dude' sound, they don't come any better, volume and subtlety, richness and clarity, projection and intimacy, its has it all. And I think it looks amazing.
