Only made by Gibson in 1917 the Alrite or Style D was superseded by the Army and Navy model. This is the first of these we've had and its a beauty with original tuners, pickguard and clamp, bridge and tailpiece.

The Alrite/Army and Navy was the predecessor of the flatiron pancake and has that same amazing, punchy sound with lots of bass and sustain. With non original case.

Its on the brighter end of the old Gibbo tonal range, lots of volume and clarity, deep and warm bass but not too much of that tubbiness that some have, just the way I like them.

Great condition Sheraton brown A2 from 1921, original tuners and tailpiece with modern (stickered) case.

This is great sounding one, not too tubby but still with great that old Gibbo bass, rich and full mids and nice clear and sparkly trebles.

The whitish bloom on the back doesn't look as bad as its shows in the photos.

Corrado Giacomel is one of the world's top mandolin luthiers. A few years ago he astounded traditionalists with a radical new take on the F5. Non other than David Grisman (aka The Dawg) was so impressed; with the look, workmanship and sound that he represented him in the US of A. Not long after The Dawg and Eastman mandolins got together and agreed to produce a limited number of reproductions of instruments from the Dawg's famous collection. The DG1 Giacomel is the first of the series.

I remember when I first saw photos of the Giacomel. I just couldn't decide whether I liked the look or not. Years later I still hadn't made my mind up and decided I had to wait until I saw one.. it still took me a few days (and my appreciation of radical design is well known) but now I love it.

This beauty came in set up with very light nickel strings (.032 - .09) and an action so low you couldn't have fitted a banker's conscience under it, I really didn't care for the sound. Ted Eschliman of Jazz Mando described a DG1 as having no chop and a slight lack of authoritative lows. With a set of J75s and action high enough for a banker's bonus (that's the kind they should get at 2 mm at the 12th on the G) it has a fantastic rich tone. It chops and barks and has a full and resonant bass as well as a strong mid range and sweet clear trebles.

Capek F4 Sophia from 2003 in excellent condition with original case. It has some fantastic flamed maple and beautiful abalone inlays.

Rich and full sound with the warmth and strong bass of a great F4, rich and complex mids and clear/ringing trebles.

In Engelmann spruce and flamed maple with an oil varnish finish this is a fantastic F4 from Eduard Kristufek, built in 2005. It has that full and rich sound typical of the carved top and back oval hole mandolin but with much more clarity and definition than most A4s or F4s. With hard case.

Fantastic Indian Summer F4 Premium from Jiri Lebeda built in 2002. It in very good condition with one top impression/ding and a few small marks, some on the back of the neck at the dusty end. Original case with stickers and writing..

I sold a lot of Jiri's mandolins back in the day, I don't see many used and there is a very good reason for that, they sound great and folks hang on to them. This one is in excellent condition with some very minor scuffs (too small and insignificant to photograph).

It has Jiri's signature sound, very full and rich with depth and character and a loud chop, great for bluegrass and much, much more. With black Eastman fibreglass case.

I've got one of these beauties myself (its not as pretty as this one). IMHO the GoM (guitar bodied octave mandolin) is the only way to get an octave with strong and well define bass as well as great overall tone and volume.

Fantastic A5 from Jim Hilburn built in 2011. Spruce and flamed maple with ebony bridge and fretboard, James tailpiece (the best), pickguard, abalone headstock and fretboard inlays, K&K pickup and a custom rectangular case.

I have heard of Jim's reputation but this is the first one I've played and I am very impressed. Its one of those mandolins that combines a very full and rich tone with great clarity and balance, wonderful.

Used F5 from the master's of the Loar reproduction Jim and Ryan Triggs. A few marks, top and back, otherwise excellent condition. A bluegrass machine, one for those who like their chop loud and percussive.
