Steve Sorensen Mandolins

Steve Sorensen built his first instrument - a banjo - in his college dorm room at the University of California Davis in 1981. While, bringing power tools to the college dormitories might have seemed a little odd to the other students, Steve reasons, "it was the only way to get a better instrument than I could afford to buy at the time."

Since the 1980s, his background has been diverse to say the least. He established the fine wine vineyards for the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, wrote for the animated TV show, The New Adventures of Johnny Quest, and managed a large call center. Meanwhile, Steve was always working with wood -- from setting up a spruce milling shop in the extra bedroom of the tiny apartment he shared with his new Bride, to filling his current home with intricate moldings and built-in cabinetry.

After years of building as a "weekend warrior", Steve formed Sorensen Mandolin & Guitar Co. in 2011 and began building instruments full-time. His mandolins and guitars reflect his diverse background and are modern takes on the classic designs from the 1920s which consistently highlight flowing design, beautiful wood, and rich, full tone at every fret. Steve says "I guess I'm still obsessed with building instruments that are far better than I could afford to buy!"

Steve is so busy he isn't having time to supply many dealer orders. I am not expecting another from him this year so grab this outstanding mandolin while you can.

Another absolutely stunning mandolin from Steve. It has everything you could want in the tone (and looks) department, its very full and rich with great warmth and complexity, fantastic definition and note separation and a chop for the bluegrassers up with the very best. It responds beautifully to the lightest touch and the heaviest pick.
