Smart mandolins
Sole luthier mandolins from £4200 Laurence Smart is one of the top makers of custom mandolins with a waiting list longer than two years. I remember nearly buying one of his single 'comma' hole mandolins when I started TAMCO in 2000. I had regretted it ever since. After a two and half year wait I finally have one. I am currently waiting for one of his ten string mandolin/mandola fan fret instruments so have reluctantly decided to let the comma go. |

Lawrence Smart two point black top USED SOLD
SoldThe most beautiful mandolin I've ever seen! But since I became a traitor to the oval hole sound and now mostly play f holed mandolins it's not getting much playing time and as I have too many at home it has to go. (I also have two other mandolins on order from Lawrence).
Lawrence designed it with Arthur Stern. When it became available a few years ago I snapped it up, I am going to miss it now!

Lawrence Smart 10 string mandolin/mandola SOLD
SoldI am reluctantly letting my Lawrence Smart 10 string go. Tuned CGDAE, if you have ever wanted a great mandolin and mandola in the same instrument they don't come any better than this.
The fan fret allows a longer scale for the mandola and shorter for the mandolin. This means the usual compromise of having either too short a scale for the mandola or too long for the mandolin in 14" - 16" scale instruments is overcome.

Smart 'Comma' SOLD
SoldI bought this beauty for myself but the imminent arrival of my ten string fan fret mandolin/mandola from Lawrence and my need for funds to fit out my new shop mean I have reluctantly decided to sell it.. after waiting about two and a half years I am kind of hoping that it doesn't sell.
If has Lawrence's legendary craftsmanship and a very clear tone with fantastic definition and projection.
