Pava decided to make a slight career change after living in the U.S. for a few years. Gaining employment at Collings Guitars she was first introduced to the Luthiery world. She began in the finish and sanding department. Collings quickly noticed Pava’s skill and promoted her to the mandolin department where she built F-5 models.
Pava A5 sunburst£2,295.00In stockI am going to repeat what I said below, Pava not only makes great mandolins but has wonderful consistency too. The first two sold in a jiffy so don't hang around if you fancy this one.
Playing and describing so many great mandolins sometimes its hard to know what to say so my approach is to start with what strikes me first after a few minutes playing. In this case it was the sweetness of the chop. Some chop chords are dry and percussive, at the other end of the scale they can be sweet and not very good for cutting though against the villain of the piece in the jam (no name but you know which instrument I mean). Occasionally I come across one that in my view is the 'best of all possible worlds' what I think of as a musical chop, loud and with great cut but warm and not dry, this is one of the best examples of this I have come across.
This a VERY versatile mandolin with plenty of the aforementioned chop and cut for the bluegrass player and wonderful depth and richness of tone for other styles. It takes a great luthier to combine clarity and definition and warmth and resonance, Pava has achieved that in this beautiful mandolin.
Pava A5 satin blondeOut of stockSold, next one due spring 2015. £2150.
Another beauty from Pava, this one in a gorgeous satin blonde finish.
I mentioned how consistent she is in the descriptions below, this one is is undiscernible from the A5s below with wonderful tone, it has it all, volume, chop and richness and depth.
Pava A5 blonde glossOut of stockFantastic, this beautiful gloss blonde A5 from Pava has tone to die for. Its rich and full with a very loud pop and chop and responds equally well to a hard pick or a light touch, with great definition and projection from the lowest G to the 22nd fret and lots of depth and complexity, a mandolin for all styles.
With hard case.
