Mowry Mandolins
Sole Luthier Mandolins I’ve been hearing about Andrew’s amazing mandolins for a few years. I ordered one for myself and have been waiting impatiently for the two years to be over. I asked him at the time if he would consider supplying one for TAMCO. He said he rarely made for stores due to his long waiting list but would keep me in mind. When there was a cancelled order recently I was very excited to be able to get it over here. This will probably be the only Mowry we’ll have. Andrew, like many of the best contemporary builders, is inspired by tradition but also looks to modern styles and techniques (those who know me won't be surprised to know my order is unconventional). With qualifications in Geology and Physical Geography he has a scientific bent which enables him to study old and new mandolins to add technical knowledge to his practical knowledge gained since starting to build instruments at the age of ten! Andrew has been featured in a review at jazzmando.com, in Mandolin Magazine and on Mel Bay’s Mandolin Sessions. I don’t think this amazing mandolin will be here for long… |

Mowry A5
Wow! This is one of the most beautiful mandolins I've ever seen. Andrew scores in all three areas, design, faultless workmanship and sound. After my recent sell off of most of my personal collection one of my three remaining mandolins is very similar to this (just slightly different headstock and fretboard inlays).
It is in spruce and maple and has a one and one eights nut width, 22 frets and a James tailpiece, ebony fretboard and bridge and Elite tuners with black buttons. It sounds incredible with great balance, projection and volume. It achieves that combination of richness and clarity that only the best do, responding well to the heavy bluegrass chop or the gentle lyrical approach.

Mowry F5
Our first (and probably only) mandolin from Andrew Mowry. It's in Birdseye maple with Engelmann top and red spruce tone bars, abbreviated pickguard Waverly tuners with ebony buttons, James (Axiom) tailpiece 1 3/16" nut, 12" radius fretboard, medium (0.08" wide) frets, hand-made (and compensated) bridge, Travelite case. I am going to use my favourite cliche (again), is sounds as good as it looks, you can see how good it looks... The birdseye gives an incredible clarity of tone but with no loss of depth and richness. The chop is loud, bright and clear with amazing projection. The trebles are precise and sweet, the mids are strong and resonant, the bass warm and well defined... I'm going to stop now before I take it home...
