One evening while surfing the web I chanced across the Flinthills Mandolins website, I was so taken with the quality of Mark Franzke's work we exchanged a few emails and had a phone conversation or two. I then took the plunge and ordered two mandolins. I had never heard his name before but figured that someone able to work to such high aesthetic standards might know a thing or two about tone. The gamble paid off, I think Flinthills is the best kept secret in the mandolin world today.. not for long... Mark works alone in his workshop in the flint hills of Kansas making these immaculate mandolins, get one before the prices go up. |

Great sound, rich and full with loads of chop and great volume. Fantastic for bluegrass but with the depth and warmth for many other styles.

£2,450.00In stockAdirondack spruce top, flamed red maple back and sides, the best bridge around - Cumberland Acoustics - and the best tailpiece - the James - ebony bridge, Grover tuners, abalone headstock inlay and position markers, carbon fibre truss rod and a TKL case.
This beauty has the fantastic deep and rich bottom end of an oval holed mandolin, warm mids and clear and bright top end, great for folk, old time and many other styles but not ideal for bluegrass.

It has lots of the deep bottom end of an oval holed mandolin but with brighter mids and top end than most, great for folk, old time and many other styles but not a bluegrasser.

This is my kind of f hole sound, rich and full with plenty of bark and chop. Great for bluegrass but with the depth and complexity of tone for many other styles.
