Stephen Kinnaird Acoustic Guitars

See an interview with Steve on the review pages of this website.

Stephen has been making his beautiful and unbelievably well priced acoustic guitars in his Nacogdoches, Texas workshop since 1980.

He says "In the ensuing years I have developed a style that shows an appreciation of the great acoustic guitars of the past, while leaving room for personal expression. As a custom builder each instrument is approached as unique, and no two are exactly alike. I find great satisfaction in the challenge of designing an acoustic guitar that meets the needs of each customer."

My first two guitars from Steve sold in no time and I like this one even more. Walnut is a wood that is not popular in some quarters but I've liked every guitar I've had built in it and this beauty demonstrates why. It has a very full and luscious tone with warm and rounded basses with great definition. The mids are rich and complex and the trebles fat but clear all the way up. The overall balance is fantastic with great projection and volume. It has plenty of headroom for those with a heavy pick style and the sweetest clear and resonant tone from a light touch with fingers with or without nails. Stunning in all departments.

My second oak parlour from Steve and this beauty is just as spectacular as the last.

It has fantastic balance and projection with great warmth, depth and clarity. My mother used to say 'great things come in small packages' this certainly applies here. It has as much volume as a much bigger guitar and is a comfortable to play as you could possibly wish for.
