Brentrup Guitars

I've been working with Hans for many years and have had the great pleasure of selling a few of his mandolins. They are among the best available and the black Eclipse that I commissioned from him (see Brentrup Mandolin pages) for myself remains one of my favourite ever mandolins.

A few years ago Hans returned to guitar making and has concentrated on making 1920s Larson style instruments. His guitars feature highly arched backs and cylindrically arched tops, he also makes his own Larson style purfling. There's been a lot of excitement on The Acoustic Guitar Forum about his work combining the old and the new. The bracing scheme is derived from Larson Brothers ladder braced guitars but incorporates carbon fibre tone tubes running in an A frame pattern (instead of the Larson brothers metal rod) and underlying the top braces which essentially spreads the neck block and tail block so they can't move and neither can the top.

    Out of stock
I've been hassling Hans to send me a guitar for a few years now. It was well worth the wait. Punchy little parlour is a tired old phrase but it certainly applies here, fantastic volume (OK not as much a s dread) separation and projection with a deep and characterful tone, oak and Adirondack is clearly a winning combination. And what a beauty, I love the look of the oak and Hans' Larson style rosette and purfling. A perfect blues guitar with plenty headroom and sustain for digging in.

There's a ding on the back of the headstock (see photo) £250 has been knocked off because of this.
