Ervin Somogyi Guitars ++++++++++++++++++++++++STOP PRESS+++++++++++++++++++++ I have another guitar on order from Ervin. Its an OM due mid to late 2011. I am absolutely delighted to be representing master luthier Ervin Somogyi . Ervin Somogyi has been making guitars for more than 40 years and is one of the most prominent and highly respected of the first-generation American luthiers. A true icon in the world of modern luthery Ervin's guitars have featured on many landmark guitar recordings perhaps most notably Michael Hedges' "Breakfast in the Field". Somogyi's close collaboration with several artists on the legendary Windham Hill record label led to the design of his "Modified Dreadnought" (first built for Danel Hecht) which was the first steel-string guitar expressedly built to provide a sound that would do justice to the "classical quality" recording ethos at Windham Hill. It is no exaggeration to say that this was the first flat-top steel-string guitar expressedly built with the advanced solo fingerstyle player in mind and the missing link between the factory built guitars of the past and the luthier built instruments of today. Thanks to Galli Films and Ervin Somogyi for the use of this video. |

Trevor's visit to Ervin Somogyi's workshop
During my visit to the 2009 Healdsburg Guitar Festival I was honoured to be invited to stay with Ervin Somogyi. In a couple of days in Oakland I learned a great deal about guitar making and what forty year's worth of experience, hard work and intuition can produce. I honestly didn't ever imagine that guitars could sound like this! Somogyi guitars may be a lot of money (not compared to a piano or violin of similar quality) but they don't lose any value and sound like a choir of angels with orchestral backing.
Unfortunately in my excitement I forgot to take a photo of him from the front!Out of stock

See the Acoustic Magazine review, this website, central menu, reviews.
AWESOME! I am not even going to attempt to describe the sound.
Ervin has had a price rise recently. If this came in now it would be £25900.
