Sharleen Simmons Guitars

Sharleen Simmons Guitars

I met Sharleen when she came along with Gustav Fredell to deliver a guitar of his. I decided to order a guitar from her just before Gustav passed away. It was a tragic loss to the guitar making community and to Sharleen in particular. She has bravely decided to carry on and will soon be returning from Sweden to her native Newfoundland.

The first guitar will be a tribute to Gustav. I am looking forward to this one and many more.

From Sharleen. "I am very happy to share my passion for lutherie with you, and I work everyday to build guitars with beautiful tone, creative design, and ease of play-ability. I believe a true musicians instrument should be all of these things- finely crafted, thoughtful, and should immediately feel like an old friend and inspire many hours of beautiful music.

Of course I would not be able to share my work with you without the help of my mentors over the years- from Gordon O’Brien, at O’Briens Music Store in St. John’s, Newfoundland, where I began repair work many years ago, to Bryan Galloup at Galloup School of Lutherie, and Michael Greenfield, Greenfield Guitars where I was privileged to apprentice. I also could not begin to list the countless other guitar makers who continue to inspire me and my work everyday. To my family and friends who have supported me on this journey in following my dreams, I send endless thanks. And finally, to Gustav Fredell, my partner in life and lutherie who I share a home and workshop with in Lidköping, Sweden, none of this would be possible and I am ever grateful.

I sincerely hope you enjoy my work and I look forward to sharing my instruments with you all."

I am gobsmaked, overawed and over the moon. If you think this beauty looks great you should hear it. Forget any thoughts of small body tone this is at least the equal any OM and many an SJ in the volume and depth department.

It has a very warm and sweet tone with great richness and complexity. Fantastic articulation, definition and projection from the well defined bass notes trough the sweet mids to clear and full trebles. If I was was on a desert island and only had one guitar...
