Hiroshi Ogino Guitars

Hiroshi Ogino Guitars

I am delighted to represent Hiroshi Ogino in the UK and Europe. He is one of a growing group of former Ervin Somogyi apprentices represented by TAMCO that never fail to make outstanding guitars.

After working as a luthier for seven years in Japan Hiroshi moved to Oakland California to study as an apprentice under his mentor Ervin Somogyi for two years. Hiroshi had already known how to make guitars but he really wanted to learn how to make "The Responsive Guitar" (the title of Ervin Somogyi's famous book). He couldn't help but feel a strong identity as a Japanese man in the US, though he had never felt it when he was in Japan, so he got to express Japanese aesthetics in his guitars. One of his styles embodies "Wabi-Sabi", meaning "quiet simplicity" but his guitars sound anything but quiet and are very expressive.

After going back to Japan Hiroshi started his own workshop in Takaoka Toyama. He is a researcher and craftsman. His method of guitar making is based on scientific ways because he learned mechanical engineering at university and he combines this with great intuition and skill.

This beautiful set of very straight grained padauk was given to Hiroshi as his graduation present by Ervin Somogyi and he has done a fantastic job using it.

Hiroshi's Zen rosette, embodies his "Wabi-Sabi", or "quiet simplicity" approach. Its a true work of art.

The tone is as remarkable as the workmanship. This is a versatile guitar with a very full and well defined bass, with warm and punchy mids and exceptionally clear trebles. It responds beautifully to a gentle touch of the fingers and equally well to a pick with great balance and projection.
