Ray Kraut Guitars I met Ray at the Healdsburg guitar festival in 2009 and was immediately struck by his designs. He got his first start at wood working at the age of fourteen. Early on he found that he was intrigued by the nature of woodworking and quickly found an artistic outlet in it. Some of his early work could be found in the former Governor of Ohio Bob Taft’s office after winning awards in the Ohio art exhibition while just entering high school. Soon after his introduction into woodworking he discovered another artistic outlet, the guitar. It wasn’t until the fall of 2004 while living in Phoenix Arizona that he got the idea to build a guitar. It was then, that in the spring of 2005 Raymond attended the “Roberto Venn School of Lutherie” in Phoenix Arizona. After attending the esteemed “Roberto Venn School of Lutherie”, Raymond furthered his education by moving to Oakland California to study as an apprentice under the renowned Master Luthier Ervin Somogyi. Through the twenty-four month apprenticeship Somogyi introduced Raymond to the principal elements of voicing and designing a guitar to reach it’s fullest potential. Utilizing his mentors teachings Raymond has developed a design aesthetic and voicing that reflects the quality of his luthiery education. July 2007 marked the opening of Raymond’s new shop in Springfield Oregon where he currently builds approximately twelve guitars a year. . |
