Kent Hamblin Guitars Kent Hamblin has had a wealth of experience in the business of making fine guitars, few sole luthiers have had such a wide range of hands-on practical training. Hailing from Salt lake City, Utah he started out at the famed Roberto-Venn School of Luthery in Phoenix, Arizona where he became an instructor and had a key role when the school was re-structured. Following stints with Taylor, the Phoenix Guitar Company in Scottsdale, Arizona - where he worked on many custom guitars - and Charles Fox he moved to Telluride Colorado, home of the legendary Bluegrass Festival (Kent’s guitars are not aimed at the Bluegrass player). Working alone Kent makes around fifteen guitars a year. Its all in shop, no farmed out parts and no CNC machines, but he does combine modern techniques with traditional practices, for instance using a bolt on neck with carbon-fibre reinforcements. Kent aims his work at fingerstylists, his ideal sound is very even with a sparkling quality. He concentrates his efforts on two models. The Grand Concert has a fifteen and a half inch lower bout, the Small Jumbo’s lower bout is sixteen inches. |

Hamblin OO rosewood
£3,450.00In stockAnother fantastic OO from Kent. Its a very versatile guitar with warm bass, great balance and bright ringing trebles.
It came in at £3595. But I have reduced it to £3450 because there is a small blemish in the finish and a small scratch on the back of the headstock. Both are too small to photograph.

Hamblin Grand Concert Redwood/Flamed Walnut
£4,995.00In stockWe liked the redwood/walnut combination so much from Bruce Petros (another is on order) that we asked a few other makers to do the same. This is the first. Wow! Warmth/depth and clarity/separation and projection are often a trade-off in guitars by lesser luthiers. This incredible guitar has both in gargantuan quantities. Oooh .. looks great too. Please click to listen:

£4,995.00In stockSee the Acoustic Magazine review, this website, central menu, reviews.
OM sized body, in stunning quilted maple and sitka spruce. It has incredible warm and well defined bass with rich mids, clear trebles and great clarity and projection. It is a fantastic example of what a great luthier can do with maple. Machines can’t do this…

Our third amazing guitar from Kent. We asked him what he thought was the best top to go with Macassar ebony, his choice of Italian spruce was spot on. A beautifully balanced guitar that is lively and responsive.
