Michael Greenfield Guitars I am delighted that Michael Greenfield asked us at TAMCO to be his UK agent. His reputation is such that the lead time for customer orders is 3-4 years but he keeps a few slots for dealers so that folks can get to try out his amazing guitars (and not wait if they like the one they play). When one of his existing dealers retired he chose us to take up the vacated slots. Michael makes about 15 guitars a year in his Montreal workshop. They incorporate many of the latest techniques and proprietary design features while still being handcrafted in the tradition of the master guitar makers of the past. He says 'a truly extraordinary instrument is the result of the meticulous selection of the finest woods, materials and careful construction; along with a clear vision of the end result and a consistency of skills and techniques throughout'. These incredible guitars really are hand made. Braces are shaped and plates voiced using knives, gouges and chisels. Fingerboards are levelled with hand planes. Necks are individually carved using spoke shaves, rasps, files, scrapers and lots of hand sanding. Michael's two passions are tone and playability, he describes his tone as FAT, saying that he 'squeezes every last molecule of tone out of each instrument'. Just ask some of those who have chosen a Greenfield guitar. Some recent clients include Pierre Bensusan, Andy McKee, Brooke Miller, Charlie Hunter, Pat Martino, Keith Richards, Don Alder, Joe Finn, Melissa Greener, Del Vezeau, Emmanuel Rossfelder and Philippe Mariotti (protégé of Alexandre Lagoya). Michael says about his woods "It's not all about the species. It is about the man felling the tree and cutting the wood. My guy is awesome." Its all from far north British Colombia and selected and felled specifically for a few select clients. About the Lutz Spruce he says "This is simply some of the best spruce I have EVER seen. Very little of what he cuts is up to my spec. I get his best stuff. So maybe one top in 20 makes it here. Its very similar to good Alpine spruce.. but not all Alpine spruce is good... and I cannot trust sources there." Greenfield G1 Lutz spruce/Madagascan rosewood SOLD
Reputations aren't easily won but are very hard too keep. Michael Greenfield's consistency in his genius is legendary. This G1 has to be seen and heard to be believed. Michael was so pleased with it he kept it back from us for 10 days to get it photographed and recorded. He was very excited about this set of Madagascar Rosewood saying ..there is no more Madagascar Rosewood like yours, ANYWHERE (believe me, I've looked).
If you look for incredible definition, balance and power with the ability to respond beautifully to the lightest touch this the one.
