Kent Chasson Guitars

I am delighted be the only European representative for Kent Chasson, in a field full of dedicated luthiers Kent is a leader in seeking new approaches. He combines the old and new producing beautiful guitars with great voicing. They are renowned for their clarity and characterful tone. As a one man shop he doesn't make many guitars in a year. Over time I hope to be able to build up to having two or three in stock. He builds guitars from parlour to full sized jumbo (17" lower bout). I have a maple big jumbo and his new OM sized guitar in wenge on order.

Kent says; My guitars blend time honored traditions with state of the art innovation but it's not the traditional hide glue or the contemporary carbon fiber struts that make my guitars special. It's the passion, the training, and the 30 years of experience I bring to this craft. Plus the hide glue and carbon fiber. And the wood of course: every piece hand picked and well seasoned.

There has been a lot of excitement about wenge recently. The only other guitar I've had made with it was from Ervin Somogyi. In these times of traditional tone woods becoming scarce and in some cases tightly restricted and banned its great to work with a wood that is plentiful and cheap.

Some find the look of it to be plain but others love the deep and rich variations of colour that can be seen looking closely to be very beautiful. The way Kent has combined it with leopardwood accents makes it an incredbly beautiful guitars however yuo look at it.

Kent says this is the best guitar he has made and by his standards something.. by my standards it has a wonderful full sound, with complex and resonant tones across its very well balanced and defined range.

    I'm speechless.. well almost..

I've heard and seen a lot of great guitars here at TAMCO and on my travels over the last ten years or so and this is one of the most beautiful ever.

I think a lot of players have an ideal sound in their heads for different styles of guitar. This matches my idea of how a Jumbo should sound perfectly.

It is big and loud with fantastic balance and focus, the depth and richness of tone is just stunning. Nothing washes about causing unwanted harmonics and overtones.. its just great!

Wow! Kent (once again) has pulled out all the stops on this beauty, a fantastic example of the 'art' of luthiery.

He went all out on the sound as well, a very versatile guitar with deep and sonorous basses, complex mids full of character and expression and clear but warm and bright trebles. Playing hard or soft it responds with consummate ease.

Wow! The bass of a dreadnought but much, much more. A dread I could take home.. want to take home.

Someone who played it before it crossed the pond commented "Sounds like a dread with some sophistication.".. that's a great way to put it.

The neck is adjustable to change the action so you can go from powerhouse picking to gentle fingerstyle in a jiffy.

Kent says "One of the things I've worked hard on and am really happy with about this guitar is the blend of the traditional and contemporary. I grew up in North Carolina around a lot of Bluegrass and traditional Appalachian music but there are plenty of people building traditional dreads and doing a great job of it. I wanted to build something that gave a nod to that tradition but was decidedly my own."
