David Berkowitz Guitars Berkowitz Guitars are designed and built by luthier David D. Berkowitz in his workshop in Washington, DC in the neighbourhood of Eastern Market on Capitol Hill. His stunning guitars are known for their clean lines and immaculate detailing but the voice is always his first concern. David’s interest in building guitars started early, at the age of four. He was inspired by his discovery of the works of David Russell Young and Irving Sloane, both of whom wrote the early modern treatises on guitar making in the 1970s. In 1985, David attended Roberto-Venn School of Lutherie and continues his study of the guitar, most recently in a class with Master Luthier Ervin Somogyi. He began building professionally in 1993. He is a member of the Guild of American Luthiers and ASIA – The Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans. He is also widely known for his acoustic basses and baritone guitars. Players include Ani DiFranco, Mike Golay, John Jennings, guitarist and co-producer for Mary Chapin Carpenter, Cathy Fink & Marcie Marxer. |

Berkowitz F6 Concert German Spruce/Ziricote - USED
The spruce was harvested in Germany over thirty years ago, hence some darker graining near the centre. David says he chose this piece for its exceptional acoustic qualities, and it shows. It has an incredibly rich and balanced sound with amazing separation and clarity, the typical qualities of the best Ziricote and German spruce.

Berkowitz J6 cedar/rosewood with Manzer wedge
I’ve have never known a sixteen and a half inch guitar feel this comfortable, the Manzer wedge (originally designed by Linda Manzer) really works. This incredible guitar has jumbo power and depth but responds delightfully to the lightest touch, an unbeatable all-rounder.
