How do your prices compare with buying in the USA or on the web?
If you import by the time you have paid all the costs (VAT, duty, shipping, customs handling and a commission on the exchange rate etc.,) there should be little or no difference in price, it could work out a few £'s more or less.
Smuggling or under-declaration of value is not advised, penalties are confiscation, a fine and a criminal record. The Customs folks can use the internet and are wise to new instruments in old cases etc.! Under-declaration of value also means that you can't insure. If you make a claim the insurer will investigate the true value and value declared to customs. If they don't reconcile they will deem it to be an illegal import and refuse payment, they have also been known to report to customs.
ALSO if you buy in the USA (actually or on the web) in the event of a warranty claim you will have to pay shipping both ways, we cannot honour warranties for instruments not bought from us. If you buy from TAMCO and have a warranty problem we take care of ALL costs.
Buying from USA and outside Europe.
We no longer ship to the USA due the difficulties of customs paperwork.
Please be assured that this is very straightforward, we regularly ship all over the world. ALL PRICES ARE IN £ (pounds sterling).
Sales Tax, people resident outside the European Union do not have to pay Value Added Tax (VAT, a sales tax) this is added at 20% which means you can deduct 16.66% from our price which is shown including VAT. We will charge you the lower price, e.g. if an instrument is £1000 you will pay £833. For used instruments the deduction is 4%.
Payment. The rate charged depends on the exchange rate on the day. You can get the rate and find a conversion from the following website.
Bear in mind that this is not the actual rate you will be charged as whoever does the currency conversion will take a small commission. For instance if the site says that £1 = $1.50 you will have to pay around $1.55 to get a £.
Payment by Credit Card
If you want the actual rate on the day of payment phone the issuer of your card and ask them what the rate is.
To pay by credit card you can phone us on + 44 1273 671841or you can pay on the website. Our hours are 10.30 to 6.00, Tuesday to Saturday, remember there is a time difference, we are 5 hours ahead of New York, if it is 1.00 pm in New York it is 6.00 pm here.
Payment by bank transfer
You can pay into our bank by transfer. Your bank will probably tell you this takes a day or two, usually its about a week. We will email the details you need if you want to do this.
Shipping Costs.. Shipping costs including insurance are listed on the central menu of this website.
Import Taxes. There are no taxes levied between European Union member states. For non European countries you will need to inquire with your national authorities.
