    1995 Gibson J-35. Signed by Gibson Master Luthier Ren Ferguson. It is faithful replica of the pre-war Gibson J-35. It features Honduran Mahogany Back and sides, Adirondack Spruce top, Ebony fingerboard and saddle, Waverly Tuners and Original Hard case. For most of it's 22 years it was kept unplayed in a case by a collector, so the condition is remarkable for it's age. It has had no repairs, it has no cracks and only a few weather checks (they are hard to see).

    Fantastic rich and deep tone, kind of a dreadnought plus with all the power of a dread but with great clarity and projection, great for strumming flatpicking and fingerstyle.

    This is an early Gibson A style mandolin with "pumpkin" top and Orville Gibson's picture on the label. The mandolin has the first version of the elevated pickguard but it is missing the clamp. The tailpiece cover is the earliest version that is a bit more ornate. The original bridge height is a full 3/4". The finish is great and the top is fully arched with no sinking. This a great playing antique instrument. Classic vintage Gibbo tone, lots of that wonderful deep and resonant bass, warm and sweet mids and clear trebles.

    1915 Gibson F4 with the wonderful Handel tuners. Red sunburst finish, bound 2-point body, carved spruce top, oval soundhole, triple ring rosette, fantastic one piece flamed maple back and sides, bridge (with later insert instead of the individual pieces) and later bone nut (the original pearl nut is in the case), original tailpiece and cover, pickguard and clamp and case.

    This one is in very fine condition with no issues whatsoever, ready and willing to go on for another century or two. It has the typical teens Gibson oval hole tone with very deep and rich bass notes, warm and full mids and clear/ringing trebles.. magic. And with the current pound/dollar exchange rate it is at a very good price.

    Gibson H1 mandola 1917 pumpkin top in incredible condition apart from the ding on the top and a few other very minor scuffs it looks new, its as shiny as a new pin! All original; tuners, tuner pegs, pickguard and clamp, tailpiece and cover, bridge and case.

    Ooodles of that wonderful deep and dark tone, there is nothing that sounds quite like one of these old Gibbo mandolas, the resonance just keeps going and going and going….

    1920 Gibson O Style Artist in amazing condition, all original including case (a bit tatty with the cloth covering removed). The Style O was made famous by Big Bill Broonzy.

    I had been wanting to get my hands on one fo these for a very long time, and then I find two in a few months! It plays beautifully with a rich and full tone, more of a flat-top than archtop sound. All in perfect working order with good action and no buzzes or rattles.

    This is a LOUD one and with mojo a plenty, similar to the one I sold to Peggy of the Fairports (see above). It has the classic F4 teens sound with amazing depth and resonance and lots of that full and warm tone. All present and correct, no issues. It plays beautifully all the way up the neck with low action.

    With an Adirondack spruce top and Pete's great pickup this custom comet sounds great, acoustic and plugged in. It has Rigel's legendary playability and a rectangular tweed hardshell case. It looks ... fill in the space... I know I am going to get lots of grief about this from the purists but the purest of purists (glad I'm writing not saying this) don't like Rigels anyways.

    It all started with an idea to post on various mandolin websites the opportunity for folk to design their own Rigel. The response was not what I and Pete and Peter had hoped for so I was left with the design job to do myself. Being a literal and unimaginative kind of person the obvious design for Rigel's new Comet model was to make the tail one end of a comet's tail and angle the soundhole for the comet. The guys at Rigel contributed the hot rod car flame and the black top with distant star sparkle and midnight blue back and sides and here we are. I think it's wonderful, if you agree please let me know, if you hate it, please tell somebody else.

    Gibson A-4 snakehead 1924, sunburst finish, two-piece back of gorgeous American maple with beautiful figure, adjustable truss-rod, adjustable bridge, Virzi Tone Producer, completely original, overall excellent condition but for one repaired hairline top crack from bridge to binding, original hard case.

    This beauty is one of the best snakes I've heard, as loud as an F5 and with the oval hole sound but pumped up with fantastic clarity and separation. The A2Z snakehead is widely regarded as best of the snakeheads for tone but the A4 snakehead has all the pop of an A2Z but with more depth and resonance.

    This 1921 F4 is has been around to block a few times, but has a great tone. It has a pre 1922 neck with a truss-rod  installed and an adjustable bridge. The lower part of the pre 1922 flower pot inlay is covered by a nickel  truss-rod cover. It is all original except the bridge and it is structurally sound with no issues. Modern fiberglass case.

    It plays beautifully and has great volume and the deep and resonant tone so beloved of these old Gibsons.

    1918 F4 that's seen some action. It structurally sound all round, with original tuners with the fantastic Handel buttons, original tailpiece and cover, later adjustable bridge and a modern shaped hardshell case.

    I love its well worn look and it sounds terrific, its warm and full with plenty of volume. A great price for a wonderful piece of history that has many a year of entertainment in it yet for players and audiences.

    This one has been around the block a few times but its all sound and plays well with low action and no issues. The back seem has an old cleated repair and there is a repaired crack.

    It has the much sought after and gorgeous Handel inlaid tuners, original pineapple tailpiece, some top flattening and an adjustable bridge. The case is also original but has seen better times (see photo).

    The sound is on the brighter side for an A4, it has some of the clarity of the snakehead sound. A great player, at this price it won't be around long.

    After well over10 years at TAMCO the mandobass is sorely missed. I've added a couple of photos of its new owner. I am delighted that it has gone to a good home and is being played instead of just admired.

    I am very loathe to part with this beauty, its been my shop mascot for about twelve years but needs must.

    It's in very good condition, no issues, Virzi tone producer serial number 10555, original tuners, original tailpiece and case in great shape. It has incredible deep, growling bass, dark and complex mids and sweet trebles, there's nothing quite like the tone of these old beauties..

    Leo does it a gain! The last modified dreadnought I had from him sold very quickly. I am not expecting this beauty to be here for long. The workmanship is impeccable, take a look at the rosette and matching end graft and headstock inlay.

    The sound is equally outstanding. Many of Ervin Somogyi’s former apprentices make the mod D model and with very good reason, it has all the power and volume you can get from an acoustic guitar with immense headroom. The Swiss spruce a fiddle back mahogany in this very fine example give fantastic clarity. You get incredible depth and richness of tone with great balance with all the notes form the lowest to the highest having equal definition and projection. This is a stunning guitar.

The basic spec of course does not affect the sound, this is a bluegrass cannon, bark and bite a plenty, volume to challenge those b*njos but with enough complexity to make a great all-rounder. Punchy little parlour is a tired old phrase but it certainly applies here, fantastic volume (OK not as much a s dread) separation and projection with a deep and characterful tone, oak and Adirondack is clearly a winning combination. And what a beauty, I love the look of the oak and Hans' Larson style rosette and purfling. A perfect blues guitar with plenty headroom and sustain for digging in.

    Here’s a special offer on a special guitar that has, what some might say, are ‘issues’. We’ve had the guitar in the shop for a while now. During that time it has done its own ‘relic job’ by developing lacquer checking across the whole surface of the Spruce top. The back, sides and neck are unaffected.

    Anyone who knows a bit about the ‘lacquer checking’ that is added to modern custom shop electric guitars will understand what I mean by a ‘relic job’. There is absolutely no adverse effect to the tone or the overall loveliness of the guitar, it sounds wonderful, it’s just not something that you usually find on an expensive handmade acoustic guitar. There's an image of the lacquer checking below.

    The fret ends on the lower side of the neck could do with a little tidying up too though playability is very good as it is.

    There’s not much room left in the saddle for those who like an ultra-low action though the current action is great for fingerstyle.

    We don’t currently have the services of a luthier so we are therefore offering this guitar at £2,995, a massive £4,000 discount! Yes, you can own a seven grand guitar that you might not have been able to afford.

    "In researching Leonardo Da Vinci I uncovered something I considered very interesting and enticing. It turns out that in its history, the painting we call the Mona Lisa (“Portrait Of Lisa Del Giacondo “) was stolen only once in its lifetime. In 1911 an Italian man working at the Louvre, walked it out of the museum under his smock. It wasn’t until 2 years later that the painting was recovered, when the thief, Vincenzo Peruggi, offered it to the Uffizi Gallery, back in his home country. He felt he was restoring the painting to it’s rightful home in Italy.

    The important aspect of this tale is really its after-effect. Until this theft, the painting was a significant but not particularly exceptional Da Vinci painting of the period. But the notoriety it received from this incident began it’s unceasing rise to fame, until today it’s considered the most valued and valuable painting from the renaissance.

    So, this pivotal moment became the root of my story, and of the inlay design I’ve titled “The Peruggia Caper”. And there is a touch of humour.

    Here’s a description of the images, starting at the headstock and continuing down the fretboard:

    -In the headstock we see a Vertical orientation of the thief, walking off with the painting, which is partially hidden under his half-length smock. The upper portion of the painting is exposed, so we see the upper half of Mona Lisa’s face—plenty enough for us to recognize the image. A small section of her left arm will also be visible. Behind Peruggia we see the stone arches of the Louvre.

    -As we move into the fretboard the visuals shift to horizontal orientation and we see the upper arms and head and portions of the graphic square & circle border lines of the Vitruvian man. But in my story, we see his lower left arm grabbing the foot of the thief and his eyes looking in that direction.

    -Moving down we see Leonardo’s helicopter—large, but still of a size that all the recognizable parts are in view—but we see that it’s being pushed into service by the extended arm and hand of Leonardo himself.

    -The Leonardo gripping the helicopter is based on the only known authenticated self portrait done in his lifetime, when he was middle-aged.
    -In the ‘background’ behind this portrait, and contrastingly in a vertical view, we see the iconic image of Leonardo as an old man, this portrait will be done in a way that imitates the original style of the drawing, done in the manner common at the time, which was in red chalk (faded to orange in our time). I will engrave it and fill the cuts with red, and the background material will be a beige Jasper stone, which will give it marbled, aged look. By orienting this image 180 degrees from all the other fretboard elements of the story, it gives the impression that the older Leonardo is just an observer, standing back and overlooking the narrative and his younger self."

Its light with a 24.75" scale, twelve frets to the body and a cutaway, unbelievably responsive and a demonstration of what a great luthier can do with Koa. In mass-produced guitars Koa is usually considered to be bright but lacking in depth and warmth. Not so in the hands of Charlie Hoffman.

    Wonderful Martin 5-17T Tenor Guitar 1932. All original with banjo tuners and 'Earl Mead's Hawaiians' case.

    It arrived with CGDA tuning (the same as a mandola) but to me it sounded much better with a new set of strings in GDAE (octave mandolin) tuning. It has a very loud and full tone with lots of warmth and depth.

    The Koa BK is Jeff's signature model and now I know why. This is a truly outstanding guitar.

    From the deep, luscious basses through the complex and warm mids to the clear and bell-like trebles the definition and projection is exactly the same. I have never before had such a well balanced guitar.

    It's hard to know what to say about such an incredible instrument... The bass notes are immense and well defined. The mids have a depth and complexity that is rarely heard. The trebles are fat and full with great clarity and definition.

    Reputations like Jeff's take many years to establish and total dedication to maintain, craftsmanship at this level is an honour to witness.

    With the clarity of Italian spruce and the warmth of walnut and Ed's amazing skill this is a truly incredible guitar. Its rare to get this much warmth, depth and complexity of tone with perfect individual note definition, separation and projection. Its very responsive, articulate and intimate, responding fantastically to the lightest touch and equally well to a little digging with great volume when required. Awesome!

    It sounds tremendous, a big and warm sound but with great articulation and the clarity and definition of cocobolo. It responds to a nail-less finger as easily as a heavy pick. A fantastic fingerstyle guitar but capable of much more.
