Made in 2015 this beauty is in as new condition.

Adirondack and mad rose is a great combination giving a very full and warm tone with endless headroom as you would expect. It has remarkable richness across all tonal ranges with excellent balance and projection. The bass notes are rich and well defined, the mids very complex and full of character, the trebles are full and bright and clear. Legendary Luthiers Five: Jeff Traugott 15 October 2016

This was another huge success. Many thanks to Jeff for a fantastic day and a very interesting talk.

This will be the fifth legendary Luthiers event. Previous events with Ervin Somogyi, Linda Manzer, Ray Kraut and Grit Laskin were a great success.

Jeff will be bringing the next TAMCO guitar, specs still to be decided, let me know if you have any ideas. He is keen to discuss your requirements and take orders.

It will follow the usual pattern, open house in my shop on the Saturday until six, talk at six, ticket holders only, then food at Bom Bane's at around eight. There are only twenty tickets available.

William (Grit) Laskin is legendary for his inlays. He is a VERY entertaining speaker covering his part in the development of the soundport and arm bevel with many informative and interesting stories to tell.

See my reviews page for the article published in Acoustic magazine about the day.

Legendary Luthiers Four: Ray Kraut and Somogyi and apprentices guitar owners meet 31 Oct 2015

This will be the fourth legendary Luthiers event. Previous events with Ervin Somogyi, Linda Manzer and Grit Laskin were a great success.

The idea started out as a meet for owners of Ervin Somogyi and his apprentices guitars. Then I remembered that I was due a guitar from Ray Kraut soon. So Ray will be bringing a guitar and giving a talk.

I am hoping many of you with guitars by Ervin and his apprentices will come along with your guitars and compare and contrast! I am planning to video the event and will continue with the owners meet in my house on the Sunday of there is enough interest. Non owners welcome too!

I should have Somogyi apprentices guitars in stock from Ray, Leo Buendia, Hiroshi Ogino and Michi Matsuda.

It will follow the usual pattern, open house in my shop on the Saturday until six, talk at six, ticket holders only, then food at Bom Bane's at around eight. There are only twenty tickest available.

This was a fantastic success, enjoyed by all. Many thanks to Ray

Legendary Luthiers: Linda Manzer visit 8 November 2014

Following the great success of Ervin Somogyi's visit I decided to offer a Legendary Luthiers series of visits to TAMCO. Legends in contemporary guitar luthiery don't get any bigger than Linda Manzer.

The visit was a great success. It was an honour to have Linda and Peggy White here. After a few hours chatting in the shop we all went over to Bom Bane's Café where Linda gave a wonderful slide show and Jane (Bom Bane) provided a fantastic spread of delicious food. It really was a privilege to hear Linda tell her story I'm I am over the moon to have one of her guitars in stock.

I'm hoping to have Linda's close friend Grit Laskin and Jeff Traugott over in 2015.

  6. Traphagen HRS - Italian Spruce & Honduran Rosewood

Traphagen HRS - Italian Spruce & Honduran Rosewood

    £2,999.00

    In stock

Here’s a special offer on a special guitar that has, what some might say, are ‘issues’. We’ve had the guitar in the shop for a while now. During that time it has done its own ‘relic job’ by developing lacquer checking across the whole surface of the Spruce top. The back, sides and neck are unaffected.

Anyone who knows a bit about the ‘lacquer checking’ that is added to modern custom shop electric guitars will understand what I mean by a ‘relic job’. There is absolutely no adverse effect to the tone or the overall loveliness of the guitar, it sounds wonderful, it’s just not something that you usually find on an expensive handmade acoustic guitar. There's an image of the lacquer checking below.

The fret ends on the lower side of the neck could do with a little tidying up too though playability is very good as it is.

There’s not much room left in the saddle for those who like an ultra-low action though the current action is great for fingerstyle.

We don’t currently have the services of a luthier so we are therefore offering this guitar at £2,995, a massive £4,000 discount! Yes, you can own a seven grand guitar that you might not have been able to afford.

Feel free to make us a cheeky offer as long as you don’t mind a cheeky response.

  7. Rigel Custom Comet

    Rigel Custom Comet

    Out of stock
With an Adirondack spruce top and Pete's great pickup this custom comet sounds great, acoustic and plugged in. It has Rigel's legendary playability and a rectangular tweed hardshell case. It looks ... fill in the space... I know I am going to get lots of grief about this from the purists but the purest of purists (glad I'm writing not saying this) don't like Rigels anyways.

It all started with an idea to post on various mandolin websites the opportunity for folk to design their own Rigel. The response was not what I and Pete and Peter had hoped for so I was left with the design job to do myself. Being a literal and unimaginative kind of person the obvious design for Rigel's new Comet model was to make the tail one end of a comet's tail and angle the soundhole for the comet. The guys at Rigel contributed the hot rod car flame and the black top with distant star sparkle and midnight blue back and sides and here we are. I think it's wonderful, if you agree please let me know, if you hate it, please tell somebody else.

I was so impressed with the 5-17 tenor from 1928 I had in a while ago (for a day before it sold) that I went for this beauty.

It weighs in at 1.05 kg! And has a very rich, full and lively tone to match. I regretted not taking the tenor home, I'm thinking about this one too.

With old (original?) and modern case.

Caldwell Nick Lucas OO - Carpathian Spruce & Flamed Maple

    Out of stock

There has been a lot of discussion recently about the merits of maple and the widely held misconception that it gives bright tone.

This beauty from Jimmy proves what a wild misconception it is. I just asked my tech to play it, the first thing he said is that the bass is very strong (I agree), the trebles are very clear and the mids are warm and complex. He is also very impressed by the balance from the lowest note to the highest.

I'm lost for words. The work of a genius.

Michi used a titanium truss rod on this guitar, he says it is the lightest instrument he has made. It is incredibly responsive with deep, warm and clear tone and has great balance with strong and well defined bass notes, rich and complex mids and full, clear trebles and the resonance of a bigger guitar. As I've said before it takes a master to combine qualities that would be either/or in lesser instruments. Built in 2010.

Ogino OM 'Alice' - Sitka & Padauk

    Out of stock
This beautiful set of very straight grained padauk was given to Hiroshi as his graduation present by Ervin Somogyi and he has done a fantastic job using it.

Hiroshi's Zen rosette, embodies his "Wabi-Sabi", or "quiet simplicity" approach. Its a true work of art.

The tone is as remarkable as the workmanship. This is a versatile guitar with a very full and well defined bass, with warm and punchy mids and exceptionally clear trebles. It responds beautifully to a gentle touch of the fingers and equally well to a pick with great balance and projection.

There are many reasons why Jeff has had such a reputation for many decades, this is now one of them.

Suffice to say that it is truly incredible, combing qualities that might be thought mutually exclusive, for instance resonance and clarity, depth and definition and subtlety and projection, you get them all in this remarkable guitar! The tone and responsiveness and are what made the Traugott legend.

Pava's mandolins sell as quickly as I can get them and there is a very good reason, they are incredible, immaculate fit and finish, the best tonewoods available and fantastic tone.

This absolutely gorgeous Player A5 has great volume with an immense chop and great depth and warmth. It plays beautifully and responds equally well to the gentlest touch or going for it with a heavy pick. Pick your style from bluegrass to classical, this is a mandolin for everyone.

It is great news that Pava has turned her hand to oval hole mandolins. This is an incredible A4 with the depth and warmth you would expect from Tom Ellis' stable. It also has great volume with fantastic clarity and projection so you get the resonance of an A4 with the power of an A5. It responds equally well to a gentle caress and a 3mm pick with a heavy hand, deep, rich and resonant tones with some oooomph if you need it. Awesome!

Chasson Signature Dreadnought - Adirondack & Sapele

Wow! The bass of a dreadnought but much, much more. A dread I could take home.. want to take home.

Someone who played it before it crossed the pond commented "Sounds like a dread with some sophistication.".. that's a great way to put it.

The neck is adjustable to change the action so you can go from powerhouse picking to gentle fingerstyle in a jiffy.

Kent says "One of the things I've worked hard on and am really happy with about this guitar is the blend of the traditional and contemporary. I grew up in North Carolina around a lot of Bluegrass and traditional Appalachian music but there are plenty of people building traditional dreads and doing a great job of it. I wanted to build something that gave a nod to that tradition but was decidedly my own."

Adirondack and rosewood make for a very powerful guitar with endless headroom, huge basses, awesome warm and full mids and bright and loud trebles. Anyone who know Vo Fletcher it's previous owner will know that this is the kind of guitar that Vo goes for. Great for blues and generally getting that wonderful resonator tone, National ResoPhonic mandolins are also fantastic for their unbelievable volume. If you want to be heard in the pub in that noisy jam there is nothing better.

I can still remember the first conversation I had with Mike (Kemnitzer, Mr. Nugget). I nearly fell over when he said he would like to have some mandolins here at TAMCO. I have just about recovered but am feeling a little unwieldy again. It is a privilege to have a mandolin here by one of the legendary contemporary luthiers. As well as looking like it should cost twice as much the sound is superlative. The note separation and clarity is off the scale,. the depth and quality of tone is something I haven't heard before.. It has volume and subtlety, bark, bite and sweetness.

Spruce top, quilted maple back and sides, French polished oil varnish finish, dark curly koa wood binding with maple purfling, 22 fret curved fingerboard, ebony Koa bound pick-guard, Nugget crest inlay with logo, silver plated Waverly tuners with ebony buttons, silver plated hardware, Calton case.

A customer put some light scratches on this beauty then I dropped a box against it!! See photos. Reduced by £2400 from £6395 to £3995 this is a bargain.

Local legend Terry Lees was the first to play this beautiful guitar from Sergei. I've known Terry for a while and I know when its his kind of guitar within a few bars, he digs in and goes for it.

He's playing as a write and I hear immense power an depth when he's digging in and beautiful warm sweet tones when the mood changes.

You may think a zirizote guitar is going to be heavy (as in weight not 'that's heavy man') but in Serge's expert hands this is not the case. This is a light and responsive, wonderful guitar with fantastic playability and expression.

I can still remember the first time I saw an instrument by Al. This is my first Beardsell guitar and I am well and truly gobsmacked. It looks like a work of art and plays like a dream.

The work of a legend in contemporary guitar making and proof of how Ed achieved that status. This is an exceptional guitar. The workmanship and detailing is flawless. The tone is heavenly.

As I have mentioned before it takes years of hard won experience to achieve acoustic qualities that might otherwise be thought of as to some extent mutually exclusive. This amazing guitar has warmth, resonance and richness of tone with remarkable clarity from the fat, well defined bass to the fullest trebles I've heard. I would put it against any guitar I've ever played for balance and evenness of tone. A truly great guitar.
