Our prices may appear to be higher than buying in the US, either by visiting or over the internet. We are cheaper. Email for a quote and comparison. Bear in mind the following.

1.

Importing by either method you have to pay 22% in Duty and VAT (if you are travelling don't try smuggling it through, the chances of getting caught are high and the consequences involved are large fines and or confiscation, my advice is don't mess with HMCE). Also be sure of you exchange rate, however you make the transaction you will lose up to 5% to the credit card company or bank, e.g. if the current exchange rate is £1 = £1.8 you will get
1.7 to 1.75.

2. If buying over the web, you will pay the above charges plus £45 - £65 for a mandolin £150 - £200 for a guitar in freight.
3. If you have a problem with a new instrument you will have to pay freight both ways to the maker, or invalidate the waranty. If you bought it from TAMCO we will pay all UK delivery charges and we have authorised repairmen for all makes we stock. No phone calls to the US no hassle and service with a smile, I know its a cliche but I really am doing this because I'm into it. Recently I took a mandolin in part exchange, when I had time to evaluate it I realised it was worth more than I had paid, I 'phoned the customer and offered him £100 more.
4. If you can reach Brighton (this particularly applies to vintage instruments) you can play before you buy. We have a bigger selection of the makes we stock than most US stores. This may be a very big purchase and very important to you to get that special instrument, how could you buy it without hearing it? Vintage mandolins of the same model and age can sound very different, it depends how they've spent their lives, just like 80 odd year old people some have matured more (dis)gracefully than others, I guess the difference is mandolins usually improve with age, (speaking for myself here). Also with any instrument, if you don't like the sound or anything else when you get the instrument we will exchange it.
5. Airlines have been known to drive forklift trucks through guitars. It happened to a friend of mine. Are you insured?
